Students take part in Rock 'n' Roll hair competition

Over 40 students last month took part in an exciting competition in which they created rock ‘n’ roll themed hairstyles and make-up on real life models.

The level 1 and 2 Hairdressing students from Northampton College at Daventry had been busily devising ideas for in the weeks running up to the event, practicing techniques in class and at home. They finally showcased their creations in a competition at the Salon NC in Daventry on Tuesday 27 April.

Lecturer Sonia Martin said, ‘We always run competitions at this time in the year as part of the students’ assessments and have previously based it on a bridal theme. This year we wanted to give the students something a bit different to get their teeth stuck into. The Rock ‘n’ Roll theme allowed them to be really creative with their ideas, which proved to be lots of fun. As well as the hairstyle, they were judged on the overall look, so needed to give careful consideration to make-up and outfit of their models. There were some really wild and fantastic creations and I’m so proud of the whole group.’

The students were be judged by a panel of four, including representatives from New Image salon in Daventry and salon brands Matrix and Tigi. Student Sam Watts was the overall winner and collected prizes including hair products and equipment.
