First ever joint directory for DLP

The Daventry Learning Partnership (DLP) will launch its first ever joint directory on Thursday 23 October, marking an important stage in their exciting development plans for the town’s post 16 education.

Northampton College, Moulton College, William Parker School and Danetre School are working to a three-year goal towards completion of ‘The Academy Daventry’ – a state of the art educational building in the town centre. The new course directory highlights all full-time programmes available to students over the age of 16, starting from September 2009, officially linking the four institutions together under the same banner for the first time. A dedicated web address and telephone number will also be launched in addition to the new directory.

Northampton College Principal Len Closs said, ‘The launch of our first ever joint directory enables the partners to communicate a consistent, unified message about the coordinated post 16 provision on offer through the DLP. We want everyone in the local community to join in our excitement for a learning revolution in the town. We already have a lot to offer.  By the time we are ready to move into our new town centre building in 2011, we hope that The Academy Daventry will have become a first choice for continuing study.’

Programmes and courses listed in the new directory will primarily be delivered at the Partnership’s Badby Road site, with students benefiting from the shared expertise and teaching of all four DLP institutions. This year, for the first time, students enrolling onto A Levels from Danetre School or William Parker School will receive tutorial support from their school teachers.

Headteacher at Danetre School, David Howell said, ‘We have worked hard to refine our joint offering. With a full range of programmes listed from traditional academic A Levels and vocational courses to Apprenticeships and the new Diplomas, I am confident students will be able to find something of interest.’

Commenting on his experience of the DLP this year, 17 year-old Danetre student Adam Witt, from Cherry Orchard said, ‘My experience so far has been a very exciting one. Not only has it allowed me to keep in touch with close friends, it has allowed me to keep in contact with my former teachers. As a whole it has been an extremely positive experience and I am enjoying it and using it to my full advantage.’
