'Star' Apprentice commended

A local apprentice care assistant has been commended for her consistent high standard of work and dedication to her studies – and for racing through her qualification in record time!

Gilly Mitchell, 25 from Daventry, works at Hilltop House Care Home in Hartwell and followed a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care with the Northampton College Business Centre. Employed as an Acting Lead Community Support Worker, she last month completed her Apprenticeship in just five months – a qualification expected to take two years!

Gilly said ‘It’s just the pace I work at – I’m really ambitious and had it in my mindset all along that I wanted to get my qualification done and dusted. I work to rehabilitate vulnerable adults in an acquired brain injury unit and find it really rewarding. The Advanced Apprenticeship has really helped me gain a more in-depth knowledge about the theory behind why we do the things we do. Training whilst working meant that I could put into practice what I learnt as I went along which was really valuable.’

Employee Development Executive at the College Lynne Neal oversaw Gilly’s training programme. She said, ‘Gilly has been an absolute star right from the beginning, when it was obvious she was really committed to completing her Apprenticeship at a fast pace – at one point I even had to tell her to slow down! But the standard work she produced for her portfolio was of an outstanding quality. In my six years of working with apprentices at the College, Gilly holds the record for completing the quickest! She’s an absolute asset to Hilltop.’
