Brickwork Diploma (Level 1)

How long?

One year

What do I need?

No formal qualifications are required, but students should have a good standard of basic education.

What will I study?

This diploma covers both practical and underpinning knowledge of bricklaying, including brickwork, garden walls and health and safety related to the construction industry.

A range of study methods is used including lectures, tutorials and practical sessions. As part of this course, commercial experience in the form of duties is gained within the workshop. Key/Functional Skills qualifications are integral to the course, together with relevant additional qualifications, which include the BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Construction. Continuous assessment comprises assignments, written and practical tests and commercial experience.

What can I do next?

After completing the Level 1 Diploma, successful students may progress to Level 2.

Students should usually have successfully completed the Level 1 Diploma in Brickwork.

What will I study?

This award covers both practical and underpinning knowledge of bricklaying, including cavity walling, arch construction, and health and safety related to the construction industry.

What can I do next?

After completing the Level 2 Diploma, successful students may progress to Level 3. Alternatively students may progress to employment in the construction industry and gain relevant work-based evidence to complete an NVQ Level 2 in Brickwork, with further progression to NVQ Level 3 possible.

No formal qualifications required but students should have a good standard of basic education.

What will I study?

This award covers both the practical and underpinning knowledge of domestic plumbing including cold and hot water systems, sanitation, central heating and the principles of plastic, steel and copper whilst in the workshop. A selection of study methods is used including lectures, tutorials, portfolio building and practical work. Commercial experience in the form of duties is gained within the workshop. Key/Functional Skills qualifications are integral to the course, together with relevant additional qualifications which include the BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Construction. The course is assessed by practical assessments, short tests and the presentation of a portfolio.

What can I do next?

On completion of the course, students will be equipped to progress onto the Level 2 Certificate.

Plumbing Certificate (Level 2)

Two years

What do I need?

Students should have achieved the Level 1 Certificate in Plumbing.

What will I study?

This award covers both the practical and underpinning knowledge of domestic plumbing including cold and hot water systems, heating, sanitation, electrical systems, lead work along with generic modules including health and safety. A selection of study methods is used including lectures, tutorials, portfolio building and practical work. Commercial experience in the form of duties is gained within the workshop. Key/Functional Skills qualifications are integral to the course, together with relevant additional qualifications which include the BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Construction. The course is assessed by practical assessments, on-line multiple choice tests and the presentation of a portfolio.

What can I do next?

After completing the Level 2 Certificate, successful students may progress to Level 3. Alternatively students may progress to employment in the construction industry and gain relevant work-based evidence to complete an NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing, with further progression to NVQ Level 3 and gas installer certification possible.
