The comprehensively equipped Daventry Animal Welfare
Centre provides accommodation for a variety of animals
including rabbits, guinea pigs, small rodents, invertebrates,
reptiles, amphibians and more exotic species. This supports
the practical elements of the courses. Moulton College
currently holds membership of to the Pet Care Trust and
a Pet Shop Licence.
Specialising in vocational programmes, strong emphasis is
placed on preparing students for the world of work. All courses
include practical skills development. Students also have the
opportunity to visit local events and businesses to broaden
their understanding of the subject. Successful students will
complete a Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma (equivalent to one
A level) during one year, and will then progress into
employment or to further study towards a Level 3 Diploma
or Extended Diploma.

What do I need?
Students require 4 GCSEs at grades A to C or BTEC Level 2 Diploma or NVQ Level 2.
What will I study?
This Subsidiary Diploma covers both the practical and
underpinning knowledge of Animal Management, and provides
an excellent foundation in the principles of animal health,
welfare and care. Students will have the opportunity to work
with a wide range of species in order to develop husbandry
skills and the associated knowledge.
A range of study methods is used including lectures, tutorials
and practical sessions. Commercial experience in the form of
duties will be gained within the Animal Welfare Centre.
Key/Functional Skills qualifications are integral to the course,
together with relevant additional qualifications which meet the
needs of the industry. Continuous assessment is made up of
assignments, written and practical tests and 120 hours of work
experience at an approved establishment.
What can I do next?
Students will progress into employment in the animal industry
or to the Diploma (equivalent to two A levels) or Extended
Diploma (equivalent to three A levels) in Animal Management.
